Introduction to Chongqing

Recognized as the largest municipality in Southwest China, Chongqing was originally an integral part of Sichuan Province. In 1997, to manage the relocation of people displaced by the construction of the Three Gorges Dam and to make it an economic hub, it became an autonomous municipality directly dependent on the central leadership of the Chinese Communist Party. Known as the “Mountain City” for its geographical location, Chongqing has experienced rapid economic development in recent years in particular, while preserving a natural environment composed of undulating terrain, a large water reserve, dense forests, abundant flora and fauna. Its geographical position surrounded by mountains and at the junction of two rivers, and also its climate, mean that in spring and autumn, the city is often shrouded in thick fog, hence the name “fog capital”.

Spring is probably the best season to travel to Chongqing, despite the temperature difference you can find between day and night. But this is when the natural landscapes are the most beautiful.
