Qufu Overview
Located in southwestern Shandong Province, Qufu is a well-known historical and cultural city. It is 160 km from Jinan, capital of Shandong. Qufu is above all known to be the hometown of Confucius (Kong).
What to visit in Qufu?
Family mansion of the Kong family
Composed of 463 buildings divided into 3 parts. The eastern part is the family temple, the western part the institute and the central part the main buildings. The central part is divided into 2 sections which are the offices at the front and the family residence at the back. The garden is located behind the residence.
Kong family cemetery
Located 1km north of Qufu, it is possible to visit the cemetery where is buried Confucius and his descendants. A wall surrounds this cemetery composed of more than 10000 graves.
Temple of Confucius
The most famous and largest temples of its kind in China, it is also one of the 3 largest ancient architectural complex with the Summer Palace in Beijing and the Chengde Residence Complex. Begun in the year -478, the temple was restored under the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Confucius Six Arts City
It is a theme park that shows the thought, teaching and life of Confucius (551-479 BC). This park is called the city of 6 arts in reference to the teaching of 6 disciplines by Confucius : Ritual, Music, Archery, Driving, Calligraphy and Mathematics. When we pass the doors we first fall on bronze sculptures and 6 buildings dedicated to the 6 Arts.
