Yengisar
Located 58 kilometers from Kashgar, Yengisar City is famous throughout Xinjiang for its 500-year-old knives factories.Knives are part of the traditional way of life of Uighurs. They were used as a weapon, as a tool, or for rituals. They are highly appreciated for their rich engraved decorations and their very fine curved blades. From their youngest ages, Uighur men wear their own knife, one of the rituals is to place a knife under the pillow of the infant to ensure strength and courage. The Uighur knife symbolizes virile strength.
