A few hundred kilometers southwest of Beijing, Mount Wutaishan is a place of pilgrimage for many Buddhists from around the world, much like Lourdes is in France. Wutaishan means “Mount of Five Terraces” in French. Well Named. The place is indeed located in the hollow of a beautiful valley dominated by five peaks. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.A true den of Buddhism, the few dozen temples are maintained with great care. The decorations, the colors and the fineness of the finishes will hold your attention. Some temples like the temple of Pusading, Xiantong and Tayuan, welcome a lot of tourists every day. The prayer rooms are usually filled. It is customary for pilgrims to repeat the same rituals many times before Buddha statues and burn incense sticks. When to go to Wutaishan?
The Shanxi region is experiencing a hot summer with temperatures that easily exceed 20°C. However, showers are more frequent than in winter when temperatures regularly drop below 0°C. The best months to plan a trip to Wutaishan are april and september. The temperatures are still mild and the showers a little more rare.
