Presentation of Hangzhou
Located about 200 km from Shanghai, on the edge of the Yangtze Delta in Zhejiang Province, the city of Hangzhou is a popular tourist destination for the Chinese. The vegetation of the parks is green and abundant, the climate is pleasant and moreover, the city has an important heritage. Indeed, it is the ancient capital of the Song Dynasty.
Hangzhou owes its celebrity to the West Lake, also called Xi Hu, in the middle of a lush landscape surrounded by mountains. This lake is bordered by ancient pavilions and pagodas (Pagoda 6 Harmonies, Pagoda Leifeng, Pagoda Baochu). Pleasant tea rooms will open their doors to offer you a real moment of relaxation.
The city offers many walks around the lake, in the heart of nature with the visit of the temples of the Forest with thousand Buddhas, for example. You can visit the Linyin Temple, a monastery built in 326, which houses a 32-meter wooden Buddha.
You will also have the chance to discover the replica of the Eiffel Tower (108 meters), set in a Parisian-style neighborhood, in the middle of the city. And if you have the time, do not hesitate to go to Hangzhou, 64 km away, in the city of Shaoxing, a great cultural city with many lakes and also a rich heritage (Lan Pavilion, the tomb of Dayu and Lu Xun Museum).
A Chinese proverb says that “heaven is heaven and on earth there is Hangzhou and Suzhou”. So what are you waiting for to discover this little piece of paradise, not far from Shanghai?
Hangzhou Airport is connected to many Chinese cities but also around the world. From Shanghai and elsewhere, many trains will take you to Hangzhou. The trip is easily done by bus or car. Once in town, the bus and taxi are the most convenient and cheapest ways to get around, but it is advisable to know your point of destination because the indications are only given in Chinese.
