Update 2018: Following the earthquake that occurred on August 8, 2017 in Jiuzhaigou, the reserve was closed to the public. It has been reopened since March 2018, on only one part of the valley (Changhai Lake, 5-color lake, shimmering lake, Norilang waterfall, Jiuzhaigou lakes, double dragon lake, Zharu temple) but with a quantity of 2000 visitors per day only. Jiuzhaigou welcomes only tourists organized by accredited agencies like ours, and no more individual tourists backpackers.

Jiuzhaigou

Located on one of the highest plateaus in the world between the Sichuan Basin and Qinghai Tibetan Plateau, the Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve is renowned for the beauty of its landscapes. Waterfalls and karst peaks mix with local flora and fauna. The valley is the perfect place to see giant pandas and golden monkeys with pug noses. Its altitude varies between 2,000 and 4,000 m and its area covers 72,000 hectares. Tourism has developed since the mid-1980s and Jiuzhaigou is now easily accessible. Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou are connected by plane and train. The panorama in Jiuzhaigou is among the most beautiful in all of China. The place is picturesque to perfection. We discover a still wild nature where the modern man has never been able to put his mark. Autumn is probably the most pleasant season to walk around the reserve. The contrast of colors is so surprising between the blue of alpine lakes and the yellow-orange colors of the leaves of trees. Some places are also sacred by the Tibetan and Qiang people. This is the reason why many legends are told all around this park.
