A journey into the historic and contemporary heart of Central China
The tour “Jingchu Literary Tradition” offers an in‑depth discovery of a region often overlooked by classic itineraries, yet essential to understanding the history and culture of Central China. Starting from Wuhan, a major river city at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han, you head to Suizhou to admire the famous bronze chime bells of Marquis Yi of Zeng and visit Yanhuang, a site associated with the mythical ancestors of Chinese civilization.
You then continue on to Mount Dahong, Xiangyang and Longzhong, following in the footsteps of the strategist Zhuge Liang, before reaching Zhongxiang and the Ming Xianling Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose spirit way, stone statues and funerary architecture showcase the refinement of the Ming era. Jingzhou then immerses you in the former kingdom of Chu, with its city walls, museum and chariot‑and‑horse pits often referred to as the “underground army of the Eastern Zhou.”
Back in Wuhan, the trip ends with several days devoted to the city itself: Yellow Crane Tower, the Yangtze River Bridge, the Hubei Provincial Museum, East Lake, contemporary interpretations of Chu‑style architecture, the innovative Optics Valley district, and the historic lanes of Tanhualin. The pace is designed to balance cultural visits, urban walks and free time, with comfortable accommodations and an English‑speaking guide to help you make sense of it all. Day 1: Arrive in Wuhan~ 1h transfer.

Day 2: Wuhan-Suizhou Urban Area - Suizhou Museum (B)
After breakfast, depart for Suizhou. Along the way, your guide will share insights into Suizhou’s historical and cultural background. Visit the Suizhou Museum, home to the world-renowned Zenghouyi Bells, a magnificent set of bronze musical instruments dating back to the Warring States period. Afterwards, continue to the Yanhuang Hometown Scenic Area, a sacred site believed to be the birthplace of Emperor Yan, one of the legendary ancestors of Chinese civilization. Day 3: Dahongshan Scenic Area -Xiangyang (B) ~ 2h drive

Start the day with a visit to Dahong Mountain National Scenic Area, known as “The First Peak of Northern Chu.” This lush region features winding trails, striking rock formations, and serene temples. Explore Lingfeng Temple, a quiet mountain monastery surrounded by ancient gingko trees. Then ascend Baozhu Peak for breathtaking panoramic views of rolling hills and misty valleys. Day 4: Xiangyang ,focusing on Three Kingdoms Culture(B)
Today is dedicated to exploring Xiangyang. Begin at Ancient Longzhong, the tranquil retreat where the legendary strategist Zhuge Liang lived before serving Liu Bei. Stroll through bamboo groves and learn about the famous “Three Visits” story. Afterwards, head to the Xiangyang Ancient City Wall, one of China’s best-preserved Ming-era fortifications. Walk along the ramparts and enjoy views of the moat and old city. In the late afternoon, step into the Tangcheng Film & TV Base, a sprawling studio complex that recreates the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty with palaces, streets, and performances. Day 5: Xiangyang – Zhongxiang (B)~2h drive
Depart for Zhongxiang after breakfast. Upon arrival, explore Huangxian Cave, one of China’s most impressive karst cave systems. Marvel at dramatic stalactites, stalagmites, and underground streams illuminated by colorful lights. Afterwards, visit the Ming Xianling Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the joint burial place of Emperor Jiajing’s parents. Admire the grand spirit way, stone statues, and traditional Ming tomb architecture while learning about its historical significance. Day 6: Zhongxiang-Jinzhou(B) ~ 2h drive
After breakfast, drive to Jingzhou, an ancient city with over 3,000 years of history. Visit the Jingzhou Museum, where you can admire precious Chu cultural relics . Continue to the Jingzhou Ancient City Wall, a massive Ming Dynasty fortification that once guarded this strategic Yangtze River port. Walk along the top for views of the city and moat, and visit the historic East Gate. In the afternoon, tour to the Former Residence of Zhang Juzheng, a well-preserved courtyard home of the influential Ming Dynasty reformer. Lunch and dinner on your own. Day 7: Back to Wuhan(B) ~2.5h drive
Before leaving Jingzhou, visit the Chariot & Horse Pits of the King of Chu, an extraordinary archaeological site often called the “Eastern Zhou Underground Terracotta Army.” View excavated chariots, horses, and weapons arranged as they were buried over 2,000 years ago, offering a vivid glimpse into Chu Kingdom military grandeur. After lunch, drive back to Wuhan and check into the Wuhan Ji Hotel (or similar).Lunch and dinner on your own.
Day 8: Wuhan City Tour (B)
Start your day with a classic Wuhan breakfast— Hot Dry Noodles, Mianwo (fried dough rings), and Hutangfen (pepper soup with rice noodles). Then visit the iconic Yellow Crane Tower, a symbol of Wuhan located on Snake Hill. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the Yangtze River and the city skyline. Day 9 :Wuhan – East Lake – Optics Valley (B)
Today begins with a visit to East Lake’s Moshan Scenic Area, a beautiful green space dotted with gardens, hills, and Chu cultural sites. Explore Chutiantai, a tower built in traditional Chu architectural style, and enjoy sweeping views of East Lake from above. After lunch, experience Wuhan’s modern innovations with a ride on the Optics Valley Sky Rail, an elevated train offering futuristic views of the tech district. Afterwards, take a short trip in a “Radish Run” autonomous vehicle, experiencing driverless technology firsthand. Lunch and dinner on your own. Overnight at Ji Hotel
Day 10: Departure (B)
Spend your final morning in Wuhan exploring Tanhualin, a charming historical street known for its blend of Chinese and Western architecture, artsy cafés, boutique shops, and cultural landmarks. Stroll along the old stone-paved lanes, visit small galleries, and perhaps pick up some souvenirs. Depending on your flight schedule, our guide and driver will escort you to Wuhan Tianhe International Airport for your onward journey, marking the end of this memorable 10-day cultural tour through Hubei’s most iconic destinations.
