Vaccinations for your trip to China
Although no vaccinations are required for entry to China, we recommend that you take precautions against Hepatitis A and B and update your basic vaccinations against diphtheria, tetanus and polio, which everyone normally receives at least once in childhood.
While Yunnan and Fujian provinces are sometimes classified as malaria risk areas, these are by no means the seaside resorts of Hainan, and Yunnan’s classic destinations. In Yunnan, only the Xishuangbanna region (located in the far south of the province, close to Laos and Burma) has been classified as a risk area, but there have been no confirmed cases of malaria for several years. We therefore do not recommend taking antimalarial treatment for your trip to Yunnan given the almost zero risk.
Be aware that most infectious mosquitoes cannot live above 1000m altitude, and most tourist destinations in Yunnan (Kunming, Jianshui, Yuanyang, Dali, Lijiang, Shangri La) are located above this altitude.
For several years, Chinese health authorities have noted an increase in rabies cases. Under these conditions, we recommend the utmost caution around stray animals. It is strongly recommended not to approach them, pet them, or even handle animal carcasses, as the virus remains virulent in the body of the deceased animal. In the event of a bite, it is imperative to consult a doctor promptly to treat the wound.
