Weather and climate in Beijing
The weather in Beijing varies from one extreme to another depending on the season. The years are divided into four distinct seasons: a short, very windy spring, a long, very hot summer, a rather refreshing and very pleasant autumn, and a winter where temperatures can drop very low. Therefore, September and October are considered the best months to travel to Beijing. To help you prepare for your trip and your luggage, here are some “Beijing weather” tips.
Spring in Beijing:
Spring runs from April to May, and when visiting Beijing during this time, it’s best to pack fairly light clothing and one or two jackets. It’s usually warm and dry, but temperatures vary greatly between day and night. Beware of the wind, which can be very strong and cause some sandstorms. This is a good season for your Beijing tour.
Summer in Beijing:
Summer is very long in Beijing: almost four months between June and September. Temperatures regularly reach 40°C. It’s therefore more pleasant to dress lightly, but don’t forget to take an umbrella with you because even weather experts have a hard time predicting the downpours that sometimes fall quite suddenly.
Autumn in Beijing:
A relatively short season, lasting only from late September to late October, autumn is probably the most favorable time of year for traveling to Beijing. Temperatures are mild and the sun is always shining. The scenery is magnificent with the maple leaves changing color. It might be more ideal to wear long sleeves and bring warmer clothes for the evening, as temperatures tend to drop quite quickly.
Winter in Beijing:
The winter climate is not particularly pleasant. Beijing experiences a very cold, very dry, and, above all, very long winter. Although it is sometimes sunny, temperatures between December and February drop well below 0°C. It will therefore be necessary to bring very warm clothing. But the city of Beijing is very unusual, with its ice-covered lakes and a very special atmosphere, different from the rest of the year.
