In Canton, also known as Guangzhou, it’s difficult to talk about seasons, as temperatures and weather remain the same throughout the year. Canton has a fairly humid subtropical climate characterized by heat and sunshine. Annual temperatures range on average between 21 and 29°C. This makes Canton, or Guangzhou, a great vacation destination from a weather perspective. Be careful, however, not to be fooled by the harsh rays of the sun. It is strongly recommended to protect yourself with sunscreen and a hat, for example. Furthermore, due to a light drizzle that falls in spring, we strongly recommend visiting Canton from September to December.
Spring in Canton:
Spring lasts from February to March. Temperatures gradually rise, but the most notable feature is the drizzle that can decide to fall without warning. These weather hazards can sometimes be difficult, so don’t forget to pack rain gear just in case.
Summer in Guangzhou:
Lasting six months, summer is the longest season in Guangzhou, from April to September. Temperatures peak in July and August. The city may occasionally be hit by typhoons or thunderstorms, so be prepared for rain. Avoid traveling in August, as thunderstorms hit Guangzhou every other day on average.
Autumn in Canton:
The climate in Guangzhou during autumn is very pleasant. The sun shines and temperatures remain bearable. You’ll only need light clothing for the day and a light jacket for the evening. Walks in the city, as well as in the countryside a few kilometers away, become truly enjoyable.
Winter in Guangzhou :
Unlike summer, winter is very short in Guangzhou, but it’s still a bit cold from December to January. It sometimes snows and freezes, so don’t forget to bring sweaters and coats. It may come as a surprise, but this part of China remains very flowery in winter despite the weather not necessarily conducive to good plant care.
