DURBIANO Family – Journey to Xinjiang (11 days)

Urumqi – Kashgar – Karakul – Oytag – Yarkand – Hotan – Urumqi – Turpan – Tianchi – Urumqi

Sir,

I’ve come to thank you for the perfect organisation of the trip by you and your local correspondent. Spacious and comfortable vehicles, reliable transfers, satisfactory hotels, correct guides. The only downside is that the Yamboo hotel in Kahsgar is dirty and the staff are not very friendly. It’s not as good as the Delong hotel in Yarkand, which has three stars whereas the Yamboo hotel is supposed to have four, which is of course the local standard. But it’s a detail I’m pointing out because I don’t think it meets your requirements.

We’ll be sure to put you in front of people who are planning a tailor-made trip to Asia.

We’re delighted with our trip, which perfectly matched our expectations.

C. Durbiano

It’s hard to choose just one photo out of 1800.

In short, I chose the photo of a Uyghur family in Urumqi in the Uyghur district.

It shows the diversity of the Uyghur population within the same family (for the little girls, from Hotan’s silk dress to the T-shirt with the inscription in English, not to mention the women, too bad the men don’t have their favourite headgear). This is combined with Muslim architectural elements (the mosque and its minarets) and an openness to Western-style consumerism (Carrefour and KFC), not forgetting the omnipresence of China, with the Chinese inscription behind the family.
