‘Thank you for organising this complicated trip, because there were so many of us: 23 people!
The choice of hotels was more limited, but still very good, except for Gulanyu Island.
Particularly good are the Garden Hotel in Suzhou, the Tulou in Yuchang, the Novotel Peace in Beijing and the Commune of the Great Wall at the Great Wall.
Our first guide and third guide were good organisers, sometimes a little overwhelmed by the indiscipline of our group, but full of good will, trying to reconcile everyone’s desires, a little less strong on the historical explanations.
We particularly loved our stopover with the Tulous, the night in the Yuchang Tulou converted into a hotel – basic comfort but full of authentic charm – the visits to the villages, and above all our English-speaking guide Linda, who was passionate about the Hakkas, and our young translator Jessie, both of whom did everything they could for us.
On our coach journeys, we were very impressed to see the strength and development of the new towns that are springing up at breakneck speed.
We will always remember this China of contrasts, authentic in the 21st century and almost medieval at the same time’.
