Nicolas – Mount Huangshan – April 2024

Hello Serge,

I’m taking advantage of being on the train to give you a brief summary of this trip.

Overall, I’m delighted with these three days, and I thank you for introducing me to this little part of Anhui.

I particularly liked Qiyunshan and Xidi Village. The Yellow Mountains are superb but somewhat spoiled by overtourism.

There were a few complications yesterday, but nothing insurmountable with a little patience and common sense. That’s what I agreed to do when I set out without a guide.

The hotel itself was very typical, although perhaps a little spartan (no soundproofing, very basic breakfast – noodle broth – in a location other than the hotel), especially since the manager was often stingy with explanations. Again, this was nothing to be snubbed about, but it might be worth noting for future visitors.

Finally, the driver, although non-English speaking (like almost everyone I dealt with in Anhui – a change from Guangxi!) was very patient and helpful.

It is very likely that I will return on mission with my colleague Claire next year, and very likely also that I/we will call on you again to discover a new region of this very beautiful country.

Have a nice end of the day!

Nicolas
