Nicole and Paul – Discovering Fujian (5 days)

Beijing – Xiamen – Taxia – Hongkeng – Chuxi – Gulangyu – Beijing

Hello,

Here we are, back in Beijing.
We had a great time discovering this curious Hakka country with its Toulous.
Spending the night in a Toulous is an experience…. with very ‘light’ mattresses…but that’s the price we have to pay for folklore ….. In any case: cleanliness was the order of the day and appreciated, as it is everywhere.
Our hosts were particularly kind and welcoming.
We were also delighted by the stopover at the Hakka Resort in Xiayang, including the ‘hot springs’ section. So we thoroughly enjoyed this tour, which looks back to a relatively ancient past.

To follow, the leap forward in time to the island of Gulangyu was a complete change of scene! The recent past and Western influences contrast with the previous two days. And so many people! Tourists are swamping the small island … National holiday this weekend? Monday the 7th was a national holiday. And so much noise. But that’s the whole point of seeing a people live.

The Bay View is an excellent hotel. As throughout our stay, we enjoyed the high quality teas and coffees from the ‘same barrel’ …. So to speak!
Our companions : Fei Fei , alias Helen : 10/10 . excellent English. Very attentive, and not stingy with her comments… The driver : very good. The vehicle too.

Air transport from Beijing-Nanyuan. The very early timetable meant that we had to leave the city even earlier, at 05:00. At this hour, taxis are unpredictable. We had to order a private taxi the day before, but it cost Y320 …. instead of 80 . Back to Beijing. You were right to suggest an earlier flight. Because in Nanyuan at 21:00, taxis are rare. An hour’s queue …To remember .

Thank you again for this trip.

Best regards and see you soon … Perhaps ???
