Introduction to Jiuhua Mountain
Located not far from Huangshan (Yellow Mountains), Jiuhua seduces with its superb landscapes and its temperate climate, making it a popular destination during the summer period.
It is considered one of the 4 sacred mountains of China, alongside Wutaishan in Shanxi, Emeishan in Sichuan, and Mount Putuo in Zhejiang. The latter attract Buddhists from all over the world. It was in 401 that Buddhism was first introduced to Jiuhuashan. With no less than 99 peaks and nearly twenty places of interest to see, it is advisable to spend at least two days there if you plan to see all the points of interest, with the possibility of staying in the village of Jiuhuajie. The latter, which increasingly resembles a small town, is the ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding area. Jiuhuashan being one of the four sacred mountains of China, it is normal to find a significant number of temples and other convents there, today inhabited by nearly 600 monks and nuns.
There are no fewer than 90 temples, 9 of which are considered to be of national importance. Visiting these will occupy the majority of your stay, and will allow you to revisit the history of the region. But the superb panoramas (especially around midday) will also hold your attention.
