South Sichuan Weather

When to travel to South Sichuan?

Most of the Southeast, including Leshan and the foot of Emeishan Mountain, are located in the Chengdu Plain and also enjoy a subtropical monsoon climate in summer similar to that of Chengdu. However, rainfall is more consistent the further south one goes.

In Emeishan, the closer you get to the summit, the cooler the temperatures become regardless of the season. Check the mountain weather forecast before any trek, as heavy rain can make the climb dangerous and the steps slippery.

The southwest valleys extending from south of Ya’an to Xichang and Panzhihua have a milder and more stable climate throughout the year.
