Presentation of Xidi Village
Xidi is one of the few villages in China to retain living traces of its past. Here, there are more than a hundred houses that date back almost a millennium. Blending into the enchanting natural landscape of the Huangshan region, the white houses with black roofs are reminiscent of a Chinese painting.
Built during the Northern Song Dynasty, the village of Xidi is now home to 124 old residences, 3 ancestral halls, gardens and pavilions, as well as the beautiful Da Fu house. As you lose yourself in the narrow streets, you will appreciate the typical architecture made of white walls, dark tiles and carved doors. The most remarkable buildings in Xidi are certainly the Hall of Respect, the Hall of Reminiscence and the Governor’s Memorial. Unlike the village of Hongcun which covers an area of 28 hectares, Xidi represents barely 16 hectares south of the Yellow Mountains. And yet, this does not prevent it from having a very special charm.
With its expanses of water and its traditional houses from the feudal era, the village of Xidi is simply majestic. These splendid landscapes are worthy of a postcard and are definitely worth a relaxing little trip.
