Description of Coal Hill
It is in the extension of the forbidden city. This artificial hill rises to 110m above sea level. It was created with the land of the moat and the Beijing lakes.
The hill was supposed to protect the city from evil spirits coming from the north. The Emperor was the only one able to walk there.
The Coal Hill offers breathtaking views of the Forbidden City and the rest of Beijing.

Plan 1 to 2 hours for the visit.
Chinese name : Jǐngshān gōngyuán – 景山 公园
The hill is right in front of the northern exit of the Forbidden City.
Ticket price : 2¥
Opening hours:
– Summer season: 6:30 to 21:00 (6:30am to 9:00pm).
– Winter season: 6:30 to 20:00 (6:30am to 8:00pm).
Tip: The walk up the Coal Hill is recommended just after visiting the Forbidden City.
