Jaliu has won its popularity thanks to umbrellas made there by local artisans living in the village. The story behind the umbrellas of Jialu dates back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Following the visit of a high dignitary who impressed the locals with the quality and finesse of the umbrellas he presented to them, they decided to draw inspiration from them and improve the manufacturing technique over the years. generations who followed them.

Centuries later, the Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) who came to visit Wuyuan to attend an opera witnessed the resistance of the umbrellas of Jialu when he saw a pebble thrown by a child bouncing on the canvas of one of the umbrellas (it was raining at that time). Recognition of the quality of the umbrellas of Jialu continued through the ages, especially in the twentieth century when the export of umbrellas was in the tens of thousands. Since then, the materials used for their manufacture have changed, with the use of Chinese wood oil and peel paper (“onion skin”).
