Introduction to Jinsha Museum

This museum invites you to discover a mysterious civilization, that of the Kingdom of Shu which occupied the Chengdu plain at the end of the Shang dynasty and during that of the Western Zhou. The history of the Jinsha site seems to begin around 1000 years BC. Jinsha experienced an unexplained decline around 600 BC.

More than 6000 objects composed of jade, gold, bronze, ivory and precious stones were excavated on the site and are now visible in the museum. One room is dedicated to the reconstruction of the atmosphere of a Shu dwelling. The excavation site can also be visited. The entire museum is as always in Chengdu, surrounded by a vast park with peaceful tea houses and hidden corners. Finally, you can see a nice animated film of about 30 minutes reconstructing the history of the inhabitants of Jinsha (extra charge of 20 yuan).

The main attraction of this museum is a series of refined masks and ceremonial objects covered in gold. The centerpiece is the “sun bird” which became in 2005 the symbol of sites with the Chinese label “world heritage”. Entrance: 80 yuan / person. Access: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. By taxi about 15 yuan from the center of Chengdu. By bus, take the tourist line 901 connecting the main monuments of the city – 3 yuan.
