Presentation of the Chuxi Tulou
The Chuxi Tulou is located along a river in a beautiful setting of wooded hills. The Chuxi ensemble comprises five large circular buildings and ten rectangular buildings. Jiqinglou is the oldest of the Tulous. 600 years old it includes 206 rooms. Unlike traditional circular buildings with only four access stairs, Jiqinglou has 72 staircases, which divide the entire fortress into 72 independent units. All rooms, stairs and interior walls are built with wood and dried mud. Not a single nail was used for construction. The tulou of Chuxi is no longer inhabited but houses a museum that allows to discover thousands of everyday objects, and to learn more about the history and unique culture of the Hakka people.
